Does UnitedHealthcare cover mental health treatment?
Yes. UnitedHealthcare plans include mental health and substance use benefits, and federal parity law requires those benefits be comparable to medical coverage. What varies is your deductible, your coinsurance, and whether a given level of care requires prior authorization. Our admissions team confirms all of it before admission.
What is Optum, and why does it appear on my UnitedHealthcare card?
Optum is UnitedHealthcare’s behavioral health division. On most UHC plans, Optum administers the mental health and substance use benefit even though the card says UnitedHealthcare. If you call the behavioral health number on the back of your card, you are usually reaching Optum. CAST is in network with both.
Does UnitedHealthcare cover a partial hospitalization program?
PHP is a covered level of care under most UnitedHealthcare plans. It typically requires prior authorization and a clinical assessment showing PHP is medically appropriate. CAST completes that assessment and submits the authorization on your behalf. Most members reach a coverage decision within a few business days.
Which UnitedHealthcare plans does CAST accept?
We work with UnitedHealthcare PPO, POS, and most employer-sponsored plans. HMO plans may require a referral from your primary care physician. Coverage and out-of-pocket cost depend on your specific plan, not on the carrier alone, which is why verification comes before anything else.
How do I verify my UnitedHealthcare benefits?
Call 424-302-2598. Have your member ID card available. Our admissions team contacts UnitedHealthcare or Optum directly, confirms which levels of care are covered, and explains what your out-of-pocket cost would be. There is no charge for verification and no obligation to enter treatment.
